EQUIP20 Picks - books chosen and reviewed for you by our EQUIP team

From Here to Eternity is a wonderful book that goes through Romans 8, which author Ray Galea describes as “the most extraordinary chapter in the Bible”—not least because it “wants us to drown in a sea of certainty”.

As Galea highlights, most Christians live with a degree of doubt. The reality of sin and suffering can make us question if we are really saved. But it so important to God that he not only that he saves you through Jesus, but also that you know you are saved. That’s the key point that Galea emphasis again and again (in a good way!) as he takes us through Romans 8 step-by-step.

The first half deals with the controlling power of sin. I really appreciated that Galea humbly shares his own battle with anger as an example of how the Spirit is able to grow us in Christlikeness.

The second half addresses the reality of suffering and includes some really moving testimonies of Christians who have suffered in various ways, and how they have been sustained through the certainty of eternity.

One of many highlights for me was actually the appendix, which includes a short section on some common challenges to predestination (something that can be tricky to get our heads around sometimes) and also the beautiful words of a grandfather spoken at his teenage grandson’s funeral that are so filled with grief-stricken hope.

In this book I found fresh assurance that there really is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. I can be completely certain about my future. I genuinely think any Christian will find huge encouragement in this book—it is well worth your time!
