Meg Is Not Alone | Megan Hill

Meg Is Not Alone is a story about a little girl, Meg, being accidentally left behind at church one Sunday. I was initially drawn to this book because my own children hate being left alone (even while on the toilet!), so being forgotten at church would be their worst nightmare.

Thankfully, Megan Hill handles the situation beautifully with a sweet story that is rich and well-crafted yet easy for kids to understand. She helpfully acknowledges the real feelings of loneliness and fear, then resolves them by pointing to God’s providential care of his people.

I really appreciate that the book refrains from superficial solutions and trite assurances but is deeply rooted in trusting God’s love as shown through the church family. It also contains lovely little scenes such as Meg’s parents apologising and Meg looking after someone else in turn.

I finished the story with much thankfulness in my heart to God for my own church family and with a hearty “Amen” to Meg’s concluding line of “I’m glad I have church friends”. Whether or not you have children who hate being alone, I highly recommend reading this book to gain a deeper appreciation of God’s kindness in providing fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Meet Winne Lau

Winnie serves alongside her husband and three children at St James Menangle, where she is loving the relational aspect of country life and the many gospel opportunities it provides. The only downsides are lack of sewerage and the 45min commute to her favourite rock-climbing gym. On the EQUIP team, Winnie helps with getting bookmarks printed and distributed, plus whatever else needs doing.
